Student Conference on Conservation Science SCCS Europe, 2024

We are delighted to invite you to the 9th SCCS Europe in 2024, organised by the HUN-REN Centre for Ecological Research. SCCS Europe offers young conservationists, students and early career researchers the opportunity to meet renowned plenary speakers, attend career- enriching trainings, workshops and field trips, and have fun at the largest lake in Central Europe, Lake Balaton, at a student-friendly low price.

We proudly introduce our prominent keynote speakers:
• Prof. Yann Clough, Lund University, Lund, Sweden
• Dr. Deepa Senapathi, University of Reading, Reading, UK
• Dr. Costanza Geppert, University of Padova, Padova, Italy

There will be a series of workshops, networking opportunities, fun, and of course, the possibility to present your own research results. Please, check the website (SCCS Hungary) for more information on the keynote speakers, workshops and on the program, which develops continuously.

The all-inclusive conference fee will be only 400 Euro – including conference registration, accommodation and catering (three meals per day). ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS 10 JUNE.

Conference venue

The conference will take place in the southwestern part of Hungary, in the village called Balatonvilágos, located at Lake Balaton. The conference will be held at the holiday home of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, which is on the lakeside with its own beach.

The conference program

The program (on the 11th of September, Wednesday) starts with an icebreaking. The following two days will have the scientific programme with plenary lectures from leading conservation scientistsand student talks. A poster presentation is possible, and participation without a presentation is also welcome. The last day will be a field excursion.

Networking

SCCS Europe is a great opportunity for students and early-career scientists to present their research, learn from each other and meet with experts in the field who can offer them guidance in their future careers. The program and the number of participants (40+) provide an excellent opportunity to network with other students and the invited guests. Participants can devote an excursion to explore the natural treasures of Lake Balaton, where delegates can become acquainted with theconservation and landscape values of the region.

Bursaries

Bursaries will be available for a limited number of participants from a developing or Central or Eastern European country. Please note that students from Central and Eastern Europe have priority when applying for a bursary due to the conference topic. Applicants must have an accepted oral presentation and preferable be residents in Central and Eastern Europe.

30th April: Registration and abstract submission opens. 10th June: Abstract submission deadline
28th June: Abstract selection notifications sent out
12th July: Deadline for presenters to confirm involvement 12th July: Registration deadline
02nd August: Registration fee payment deadline
