Top 50 Research Infrastructure

Summary

Mobile outdoor mesocosm facility of the CER IAE with a high number of replicates. 96 mesocosms of 200 liters and 40 mesocosms of 300 liters are available, with a heating system available at the Vácrátót Tízhold experimental area, the same location where the IEB greenhouse experimental system and the Vácrátót site of the Hungarian Pond Network of the IAE is located. Up to 24 randomly selected mesocosms can be heated at the same time, creating a constant temperature difference based on the temperature values of 24 control mesocosms. Temperature is controlled remotely, with a possibility for heated periods with variable length, including heat waves. Apart from the heating system, the mesocosms are mobile, making them suitable for in situ field experiments. Together with the mesocosms of the Hungarian Pond Network, they were selected among the Excellent and Emerging Research Infrastructures in Hungary (“Emerging” category) by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office.
