KISKUN LTER, Long-term Ecological Research Network

Intézet: Centre for Ecological Research
Year of commissioning of the infrastructure: 1995

Summary

KISKUN-LTER is a research infrastructure with property, equipment and virtual parts. These include on the one hand Fejes Farmhouse research station at Fülöpháza, with its associated meteorological station and experimental area. On the other hand, there are geographic information databases on which the research is based, a series of habitat maps from several time points of the history of the research areas and data sets of long-term vegetation monitoring and experimental results. The metadata of monitoring studies and experiments can be found in the DEIMS database.

The KISKUN LTER research infrastructure aims to provide essential information for the society and to support decision-making by long-term monitoring and evaluation of the natural state of the environment for the Kiskunság as a model area.

Data sampling: We carry out regular monitoring on several topics in connection with the KISKUN LTER. Members of several research teams are involved in the monitoring tasks. Regular data collection started in the 1990s, and has now expanded to about 9 themes (see Supplement, https://kiskun.lter.hu/monitoringok). Most of the data collections describe and monitor the composition of the vegetation and habitat conditions. Some of these are in primary grasslands, but there is also significant monitoring of regenerating or actively restored dry sandy vegetation. Monitoring is generally carried out at a 1-, 2-, 5-years frequency and at 10-year intervals for the landscape scale. Since 2001, a meteorological station is collecting climate data in the centre of the monitored area.

A more detailed description of the data collection can be found at: https://kiskun.lter.hu/monitoringok.
