Monitoring of natural forests

The main objective of Forest Reserve Programme is to provide long-term scientific knowledge of the structure, specific biota, and functioning of natural (old-growth, non-intervention) forests, and to transfer and disseminate knowledge for improving forest management, nature conservation, and sustainable land use. Long-term studies are carried out to regularly assess the tree population, the regeneration, the shrub, and the herb layer and to evaluate changes. The forestry and nature conservation sector mainly uses the results.
