Library of bat sounds

Co-authored by Sándor Zsebők, a new study was published in the PeerJ journal entitled “ChiroVox: a public library of bat calls”. The interesting thing about this article is that it’s about creating a new sound library that tries to collect the distinctive, species-specific sounds of bats from around the world with the help of researchers and volunteers. Of the 1,450 bat species currently known, sounds of 223 species are already in the database, and more than 3,900 recordings can be searched. The initiative is expected to significantly support the work of taxonomists, ecologists and conservationists.
