She graduated as biologist in 2008, and defended her PhD in 2012 at the University of Debrecen. She is a doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 2020. Orsolya Valkó is a scientific advisor at the HUN-REN Centre for Ecological Research, Institute of Ecology and Botany and she is the leader of the ‘Lendület’ Seed Ecology Research Group. Her main research interests are related to the conservation and restoration of grassland biodiversity. She employs a seed ecological approach to understand the community assembly processes that can support restoration projects. She was the chief of the working group at the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC) report on ‘Regenerative Agriculture’ and ‘Changing Wildfires’. She is editor at several international journals including Biological Conservation, Applied Vegetation Sciences and Community Ecology.
